ADVANCE READING (PBI307A) Ganjil 2026/2027
Advanced Reading is a course designed to develop students' ability to understand, analyze, evaluate, and interpret various English texts at an advanced level critically, analytically, and reflectively. This course not only focuses on an explicit understanding of the content of the text, but also develops students' ability to identify key ideas and implicit information, analyze the structure and organization of the text, understand the relationships between ideas, interpret meanings based on context, evaluate arguments and evidence, and read texts critically by considering perspectives, biases, communicative goals, genres, and socio-cultural contexts.
The learning materials covers advanced reading strategies, inferential reading, critical reading, discourse and text structure, vocabulary in context, argumentation, author's purpose and stance, evaluating evidence, genre-based reading, academic reading, multimodal reading, and critical response to texts.
Learning is carried out through a student-centered learning approach with interactive reading, collaborative learning, discussion, case method, problem-based learning, and project-based learning. Students are directed to produce a reading portfolio as evidence of the development of academic and critical reading skills.
